A little history

OP Sondresen is a traditional hardware store with a history dating back to 1924.

It was my grandfather who established the company in 1924. He started in rented premises at the intersection of Amt. Alls gate – Slemdalsgate and stayed there until he bought the farm at Mælagata 3, in 1930. We are still there, although the sales premises have increased from the original 115 m2 to 420 m2. There are good parking options right outside the store, free of charge, which our customers appreciate.

My father took over the business in the 1960s, when we joined the Jernia chain, Norway's first chain. I was involved in the business early on, but it wasn't until the mid-1980s that I started working in the business permanently, and in 2000 I took over the operations.

There is a lot of history and proud traditions that must be continued. Our goal has always been to provide good service and give the customer qualified advice so that they get the right product. We keep a little bit of the old, with, among other things, screws in bulk and many items that you won't find in other stores. Be it paraffin lamps, glass and wicks, furniture locks and fittings, ropes by the meter and much more, but of course we also follow the latest trends.

We thrive in the center of Skien, we couldn't have the same extensive product selection if we were located in a center and that's important to us.
